Business Overview
The Forum for Indian Institute of Technology and Joint Entrance Examination, or FIITJEE, operates a chain of entrance-exam coaching centers throughout India.
Although initially founded to coach students for the IIT-JEE engineering exam, the company has since expanded to cover many additional entrance exams, including the American SAT exam and India’s National Talent Search Examination (NTSE).
Beyond exam preparation, FIITJEE also conducts programs for students who are not yet old enough for entrance exams; these programs focus on conveying the general skills needed to succeed on future exams.
Background and Challenges
FIITJEE wanted to make the record-keeping process faster and more eco-friendly. To this end, FIITJEE decided to try providing tablets to both teachers and students.
FIITJEE quickly encountered a few problems as they tried to do so:
- Students often misused tablets for games and social media, harming the learning process. FIITJEE needed a way to lock student devices down to only pre-approved content.
- Teachers also became distracted by the tablets, but unlike students, they needed the flexibility to use multiple apps based on what the situation required. In some situations, they would also need to make calls and send messages from the tablets.
- Admins needed a way to remotely relay new materials to student devices as needed.

Solution: SureLock by 42Gears made it easy to lock down tablets to only their intended usage, while SureMDM allowed admins to remotely update devices to keep them safe and up-to-date.
The Solution
SureMDM and SureLock by 42Gears
42Gears had the solutions FIITJEE needed to keep company-owned devices safe in the hands of students and teachers. Specifically, FIITJEE implemented SureMDM (the 42Gears mobile device management solution) and SureLock (the 42Gears device lockdown solution).
With these tools, FIITJEE could resolve the issues it had encountered.
- Using SureLock, FIITJEE locked tablets into only pre-approved applications, ensuring students could not be distracted. Teachers were given access to the apps and device functionality they needed, but SureLock blocked games and other distractions on their devices as well.
- SureLock also disabled factory-reset and Safe Mode options on the FIITJEE tablets, blocking any unauthorized means of exiting device lockdown.
- Admins used SureMDM to remotely monitor devices and manage content, sending study materials, apps, and updates to students as needed.
Benefits
- FIITJEE reported that it became much more efficient after implementing 42Gears software. This is largely due to SureMDM speeding up the process of distributing learning materials.
- Student learning improved as a result of increased focus.
